A Brazilian composer and filmmaker by the name of Jarbas Agnelli was reading the paper one morning when he noticed something strange. There was a photo published in his copy of the O Estado de São Paulo that inspired Jarbas to compose a song. That photo was by Paulo Pinto and it was simple: he captured an image of some birds sitting on a telephone wire.
The way those birds were arranged, though, struck a chord with something inside of Jarbas. “I cut out the photo and decided to make a song, using the exact location of the birds as notes (no Photoshop edit). I knew it wasn’t the most original idea in the universe. I was just curious to hear what melody the birds were creating.”
The birds seemed to be perfectly lined up on the 5 lines and 4 spaces.
They created notes for the composer.
So Jarbas created a piece of music, just how the birds showed him.
The resulting song, “Birds on the Wires,” was ethereally beautiful. Hear it for yourself in the video Jarbas posted to his Vimeo account:

This is what nature sounds like. Jarbas sent the song to Paulo, who sent it to his editor. It then made its rounds online and Jarbas was invited to perform it at TEDx (watch the performance here). It’s amazing what beauty we can discover around us. Share this incredible song with others.
