When people go about their daily lives, they forget about all of the evil that is out there in the world (as they should). No one should live while being constantly reminded of the terrible things that can happen on this earth. However, it might be good to remember that some of the most well known and monstrous murders that our world has seen still remain unsolved.
The ten serial killers responsible for these evil actions may still roam free.
In the early 1970s, there was a group of young girls that were brutally murdered in Rochester, New York. The victims, Carmen Colon, Wanda Walkowicz, and Michelle Maenza, all had alliterative initials. The most likely murder suspect was posthumously cleared in 2007 by DNA testing. The murderer known as the “Hillside Strangler” in California had many similarities to the Alphabet murders, but he was never charged. In 2011, a 77 year-old named Joseph Naso was charged with murdering four women and is the most likely suspect for the Alphabet Murders as well.
Bible John is a serial killer who murdered three young women after meeting them at the Barrowland Ballroom in Glasgow, Scotland. The murders occurred between 1968 and 1969. As of 2014, the killer has never been identified. The case remains unsolved. The suspect was described by a victim’s sister as being a well-dressed young man, tall, slim and with reddish/fair hair, and described as being polite, well-dressed and well-spoken.
In February of 2009, a dog walker in West Mesa of Albuquerque, New Mexico discovered human remains. Later, one of the largest crime scenes in US history was unearthed. An unkown killer used the area as a body dump. They were later named The Bone Collector. The remains of eleven bodies were eventually recovered and they were all prostitutes.
This murderer (or murderers) killed 13 women in Boston, Massachusetts in the early 1960s. The crimes were attributed to a man named Albert DeSalvo because of his confession. However, parties investigating the crimes have since suggested the murders (sometimes known as “the silk stocking murders”) were not committed by one person. If there were other murderers, they still roam free.
This is the alias of the murder responsible for the murder of Sonia Mejia, her unborn baby and Damiana Castillo. The murders took place in 2006 and 2008 respectively. The only description of the murderer available was a Hispanic male in his late teens or early 20s. He is still at large.
This is a series of unsolved murders and disappearances of young women along a 500 mile section of Highway 16. The section is between Prince George and Prince Rupert, British Columbia, Canada. The murders occurred from 1969 until 2011.The official number of victims is 18, but aboriginal leaders estimate the number could be as high as 43.
7.) Texarkana Moonlight Murders
In the spring of 1946, there was a string of murders in this area by an unidentified serial killer known as the Phantom Killer or Phantom slayer. The same killer allegedly attacked eight people within ten weeks. Five were killed. The killer did not strike during a full moon, although he did routinely attack late at night. This case inspired the film The Town That Dreaded Sundown.
The Doodler, otherwise known as the Black Doodler, terrorized the gay community in San Francisco in the 1970s. They were an unidentified serial killer believed responsible for 14 slayings and three assaults of gay men San Francisco between January 1974 and September 1975. Because a suspect was never named, the case has gone cold.
The Monster of Florence, who was also known as Il Mostro, is the name used for the killer (or killers) responsible for 16 murders in Florence, Italy. Nearly all of the victims were couples and the murders took place between 1968 and 1985. The same gun and pattern were used in all of the murders. He would occasionaly mutilate the genitals of the female victims. Investigations lead to Antonio Vinci, a relative of two other suspects in the murders. He is the most likely culprit and he is still free.
This is another streak of murders that targeted the gay community. 13 gay men were murdered between 2007 and 2008. The murders took place in Paturis Park (“Parque dos Paturis”) in Carapicuíba, Brazil. The murderer was dubbed the “Rainbow Maniac.”
