Nope, This Isn’t Photoshop. This Is Really What Happens When Ants Drink Colored Liquid… Wow.

These incredible photos below were the result of droplets of food coloring and an exotic species of Indian ants. The photos were taken by Dr. Mohamed Babu, from Mysore, India after he noticed something rather strange about the ants scurrying around his kitchen floor.

One day he noticed them drinking some spilled milk, and much to his surprise their abdomens turned white. Noticing half their bodies were transparent, he got the idea for these stunning photographs.

He made the small droplets by mixing sugar drops with red, green, blue and yellow food coloring, then left the drops on a white plastic sheet outside in his garden to attract the ants. The ants did the rest really.

The saying “you are what you eat” seems to be extra true for these semi-transparent ants. The saying "you are what you eat" seems to be extra true for these semi-transparent ants.

Afterwards the 53-year-old discovered the ants actually preferred lighter colors, such as yellow and green.

Curiously, the ants preferred light colors, yellow and green. The darker green and blue drops had no takers, till there was no space around the preferred yellow and green drops. So I put larger drops of yellow and green, and smaller red and blue, to get maximum saturation around all the colors.

Share these incredibly colorful ants with your friends below.
